The win was the first of a new chapter for The Rangers as Callum Campbell took charge of his first game. Speaking after the game he said “I’m happy with the result and how the lads played, I’m excited to build on the win and carry the form into the league.”

In a weekend of cup action around the country, the Lester Charity Cup continued with the third round as Dudley Rangers United FC scored six goals in a win against Sheere Punjab Wolverhampton Seniors.

Although it ended with a Rangers 6-3 win, the game was a tense affair for 70 minutes. Dudley Rangers took the lead through a Carrick Chaney header but the home side soon gave away a penalty, saved by goalkeeper Daniel Whitehouse, and Sheere Punjab pushed for the equaliser levelling before halftime.

A half-time shift in formation by Rangers saw them move to a back four and tacked on 2 goals through Samuel Collier and a second from Carrick Chaney to take the lead 3-1. Sheere Punjab didn’t give up and pulled one back before Ranger George Cope was sent off for a second bookable offence. They exploited the 10 men and levelled the game 3-3.

Both sides played for a winner and as Punjab legs tired the Rangers capitalised. Olly Hartland scored from distance and Anton Nesbeth converted a clumsily conceded penalty to round out the scoring 6-3.

Campbell now looks to add wins in the league as they take on Gunmakers Arms FC next match. When asked about his new role he told me: “I was happy to take the role and look forward to training midweek and the Gunmakers match.”
