Alfa Romeo Racing have made the decision to retain the rookie racer off the back of improved performances.
The team announced the news through a press release, calling Gio “mature, enthusiastic and talented, Antonio impressed the team with his rate of improvement and positive attitude.”
The Italian, who is the first driver from his country to compete in a full season of Formula 1 since 2011, is “happy to be staying with the team for 2020. I am grateful for the incredible level of support.”
The decision to retain Giovinazzi means there is one less seat available to Niko Hulkenberg, the Renault driver has not been retained by the French Marque for next season. It now looks increasingly likely that the best option for Hulk is to take a reserve driver role for 2020 and re-assess the driver market for the 2021 season.
