The Premier League weekend was blessed with a record matching 9-0 Leicester win away at Southampton. The managers of both sides and one of the hat-trick scorers, Jamie Vardy, were spoken to post game.

Brendan Rogers, manager of Leicester, was “very pleased” the work of his players outlining the “mentality of the team” during the 9-0 dismantling of the Saints, he said “we want to be a top side and we want to be a top team”. The Scot believed his side were “very hungry”, an appetite that the Foxes next opponent, Burton Albion, will be hoping has been filled. The 15-16 champions now sit in an impressive third in the League.

It is a very adverse emotion felt by Southampton boss Ralf Hasenhüttl. The Austrian side have only won one point in the last five home games after this most recent loss. The former Leipzig manager said “I have never seen a team act like this… I must take 100% responsibility for the players”. The saints side now sit a lowly 18th and are seemingly embroiled in a relegation battle. Hasenhuttl said it “was not easy to watch” and that his team had “no fight for anything”, something he must adrenaline in order to keep this Southampton team afloat. There is no letting up for Southampton either as they face champions Manchester City back to back in coming weeks.

Within the nine Leicester goals were two hat-tricks, one for ayoze Perez and one for Jamie Vardy. The Englishman said “we were really hungry tonight” and how the team “wanted to be ruthless”, a mentality that is increasingly evident. It is this “ruthless” state of mind, echoed both by manager and star striker, that will propel Leicester up the table and within the ‘top 4’. When asked about the match all, Vardy said that both hat-trick hero’s managed to get a match ball.
