Renault have been disqualified from the Japanese Grand Prix as a result of a protest brought forward by Racing Point.

The French team lose the 9 points they scored at Suzuka following Daniel Ricciardo's sixth place finish and Nico Hulkenberg's tenth.

Racing Point alleged that Renault breached sporting and technical regulations and the FIA International Sporting Code, through the use of a 'pre-set, automated brake bias system'

Evidence could be found via onboard footage, with the brake balance display changing without any input by either driver on the steering wheel, the Sillverstone team claimed.

The claim was disputed by Renault and following steward inspection of the FIA standard electronic control units and both drivers steering wheels, which were sealed and impounded post race, FIA stewards determined that the braking was not pre-set nor lap distance-dependant as Racing Point claimed.

The stewards reported that despited using "innovative solutions to exploit certain ambiguities", the system was not in breach of technical regulations.

However, Renault were found guilty of breaching F1's Sporting Regulations in regard to driver aids. F1 rules outline that the car must be driven by the driver alone and unaided, stewards concluded that the system saved Renault drivers from making numerous adjustments during a lap, even if it wasn't a substitute for reflexes or skills of a driver.

Ricciardo's sixth is replaced by Ferrari's Charles Leclerc, Niko Hulkenberg's tenth is now occupied by Torro Rosso's Danil Kvyat with Racing Point's Lance Stroll moving up to ninth. Furthermore, Torro Rosso's Pierre Gasly and Racing Point's Sergio Perez moving up to seventh and eighth respectively.
